Why See Sacramento Ballet: The Nutcracker?
One of Sacramento's best Holiday Shows
Sacramento Ballet's annual production of The Nutcracker is the best-known and most beloved of all Sacramento Christmas holiday traditions. Ron Cunningham's delightful Nutcracker returns for the 2016 season, and welcomes the return of the Sacramento Philharmonic for six select performances during the run, please see below for details. All performances not listed will use recorded music.
It's time to welcome back the Sugar Plum Fairy, her Waltzing Flowers and all of the subjects of her Land of the Sweets; plus Dancing Snowflakes, Toy Soldiers, Giant Mice, and all the rest. In addition to the thirty professional dancers of the Company, more than 500 area youngsters will fill the many speciality roles.
What is The Nutcracker about?
One snowy Christmas Eve, at a great townhouse where a party is in full swing, local magician Herr Drosselmeyer with gifts for the children, including a wooden nutcracker for Clara, the oldest child. When the clock strikes twelve an adventure begins and the Nutcracker comes to life, leading our heroine Clara into a war between mice and tin soldiers, and into the enchanted Land of Sweets where a festival awaits them.
